“Big day finally arrived. We all arrived at Blackpool and about 50 cyclists turned up on the prom – thanks to you all. We set off as a big group but gradually split as the route progressed. By the time we got to Preston people went in different directions proving what an unmanageable bunch of free spirits we have! Those of us who stuck to the route were treated to a hill at Haigh Hall (which we have since realised wasn’t a hill at all – see Sunday blog) and also to a downpour at Wigan. We also missed out on ice cream at Fredericks. I stayed with Neil nino Pointon and Chris Whiteley for a while but their extra gravitational pull on the downhill saw them get away from me. After 56 miles we were treated to another downpour! 58 miles saw us arrive at Challenge 4 Change for a well deserved hot dog. All our cyclists made it and all did exceptionally well! Joanne Lake came in on her sky blue City bike and a number of Widnes Vikings completed the course! Members of the charity Bolton Kidz2gether had an eventful journey but made it. People enjoyed the activities and BBQ at the centre afterwards and thanks to all who came. Colin Hendry and Lakey came to join Nino in an ex City trio which was great for me. A great night but wary about tomorrow’s ride.”
