Not much sleep last night. First as the display in the room at the Premier Inn told me – target temperature 21 degrees actual room temperature 29.5 degrees. Then there was the thunder which started around 2am and never stopped! The 80 mile day started with rain, cloud and thunder with the odd lightening bolt thrown in for good measure. However the rain soon stopped and it became quite pleasant cycling weather. As I approached Harlow I could feel the odd spot of rain so was relived to spot our support driver at a pub (see pic) and stopped for a rest. Lucky I did as the heavens opened for about 20 minutes leaving lots of water on the roads. When I set off the weather improved dramatically but the traffic didn’t. Our route took us to a roundabout for the M11 which wasn’t a pleasant experience. Once I had recovered from that though the route was very good. I arrived at the Dartford crossing for the M25 where myself and Graham had an enforced rest waiting for the transport across.
Once over the other side it was only about 5 miles to cycle to tonight’s Premier Inn. And they don’t do refunds if you can’t sleep because of the weather!!! Oh and the “tour de France finished last week” comment has started to lose it appeal!
