Day 5 started in bright sunshine with a full English breakfast at the Premier Inn in Gravesend.
Our 76 mile day started with a cycle through Rochester and then to Gillingham where Gareth went to visit the pier. We then headed down the A2 as far as Faversham where we headed off to less busy roads. One of these wasn’t really suitable for our bikes but we made it. We then hit the sea front at Seasalter before heading to Canterbury. There we had lunch, standing up, as we were warned about thieves in the alley where our bikes were.
We then cycled to Sandwich and along the coast to Deal and finally on to Dover. This was a much calmer and picturesque journey into Dover than the one down the A2 last year.
The cycle up to the white cliffs centre was a nice end to our English journey and today we passed through some beautiful places. We then got the ferry to Calais for the short cycle to our hotel. Only 100 miles to do tomorrow so best get some sleep!
