Matthew Lowton, born in 1989, joined Aston Villa from Sheffield United in 2012. He is a defender who caught the eye in the 2012/13 season with a stunning Match of the Day “goal of the month” for Villa away at Stoke City. Family is very important to Matthew and he is also keen to promote how sport and physical activity can help young people make the right choices in life as well as giving them essential life skills.
On becoming a patron of Challenge 4 Change Matthew said:
“It is a great honour to be involved with such a fantastic charity. Sport, and football in particular, together with the help and support of my family have enabled me to achieve what I have so far. I believe that physical activity and team work are essential ingredients to ensure young people make the right choices in their life. This is the ethos of Challenge 4 Change where young people are positively engaged and given the self esteem and confidence to achieve their goals. They also have an unforgettable, challenging experience. What really impresses me is the difference they can make to people in such a short space of time”.
